California Study on Violence Experiences Across the Lifespan (CALVEX): Findings from the March 2022 Survey

View / Download

In this report, CalVEX 2022 survey findings, offer population-level estimates of past year physical violence inclusive of experiences of violence with a weapon (gun or knife), past year sexual violence inclusive of experiences of sexual harassment and coercion as well as forced sex, and past year intimate partner violence (IPV). The report this year expanded to include neighborhood safety and experiences of everyday discrimination (including discriminatory microaggressions), which we view as socio-structural violence. The report presents trends in these experiences over the past three years, reflecting one year prior to the pandemic and two years under the pandemic. These are the most comprehensive available data on state-wide ( CA)  trends of violence experiences at the population level and can provide insight into the intersections of interpersonal and socio-structural violence in the state
