Percent of of Students in the Healthy Range for Body Fat

Measurement Period: 2018-2019

California Physical Fitness Testing

This score is collected by the California Department of Education during their Physical Fitness Testing (PFT) administered during grades 5, 7, and 9.

Body Fat Calculation

The percent of students that are in a healthy range for the percentage of body fat. Body fat is determined by skinfold measurements (calf or tricep), a hand-held Bioelectric Impedance Analyzer, and Body Mass Index (calculated by height and weight) if neither of the first options were allowed or possible. The child's age and sex determine the range of healthy body fat.

Note:
As of 2021, this measurement is no longer included as one of the California Department of Education Physical Fitness Testing tests. The monitoring of children's body fat is harmful to their mental health and body fat percentage is a measure of body composition and not fitness.

Being at too high or too low percent body fat places children at risk for a variety of medical conditions.
