Climate Change & Resilience in Monterey County

Climate Change causes negative health impacts. Monterey County's dedication to creating the best future for all includes investigation of how residents, government, and other organizations can prevent further changes in the climate as well as respond to events caused by climate change, such as drought and forest fires. This story highlights that while climate change affects all residents' health negatively, vulnerable populations—individuals at increased risk due to social, environmental, health, and economic factors—face greater risks compared to the general population. Vulnerable populations are then often left out of programs and policies meant to reduce climate change's progression and prevent health impacts, widening the gap. Creating a healthy future for all requires addressing the needs of the vulnerable, and general populations, and this story describes why we need to and how we can make a better future for everyone.

The Monterey County Resilience Plan story is a part of the Monterey County Community Resilience Plan, a collaborative project by the Monterey County Office of Emergency Services (OES), The Monterey County Health Department to complement OES's Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan and Climate Action Plan and MCHD's Health in All Policies.
